"I’m proud of getting divorced”
Happy Valentine’s Day! Happy Galentine’s Day! Happy National Day of Love!
Although there is a lot of commercialism surrounding Valentine’s Day, it is a holiday that celebrates the beauty of LOVE and relationships in our lives.
For those of you in a loving relationship – may you remind your partner of all of the gifts and blessings your relationship has brought to your life. For those of you self-partnered on this day, maybe there is a way to honor an ended relationship for the gifts and blessings you gained. If you are celebrating today with a friend, why not open your time together by sharing what you love about them and how they have changed your life for the better.
Gratitude is a simple, yet powerful way to bring us back into our hearts. Ultimately, it’s all about LOVE!
Today, we start our video series with insight from Human Connection Specialist, Mark Groves. Mark has a beautiful way of helping us see dynamics in relationships with a fresh perspective. For those of us who find ourselves in an ended marriage. Have you ever said this out loud?
“I’m proud of getting divorced”
Mark says, “I don’t see relational endings as failures. I see them often as the birthplace of everything. And that’s such a different way of seeing it, because it goes against this whole narrative that we’ve taught people which is: If you break up, you’re a failure. If your relationship ends, you’re a failure. This is because we put your self-worth in being in a relationship. Your self-worth doesn’t live in being in a relationship. What a shitty place to place our self-worth, because then if they leave so does our worth. And it’s like, man, what a beautiful gift to know that when someone’s relationship ends, our heart does not walk out with them, you know? What a different…that’s a rebellion in and of itself to be like, “I’m so proud of myself for getting divorced.” Who says that? No one says that.
